This is interesting but all of a sudden this started happening:
When I go to a link that usually brings up another window, the new window will open but the page will not display. I don't get any strange message or anything...it's just that nothing really happens when it pops up. I've checked all my settings in firefox thinking that some how something got switched around but nothing was changed. This happened right before I upgraded firefox.
Any help would be welcome.

I really don't know anything about this. I have a firefox issue that someone on here may be able to help me with. For a long time I used internet explorer and now I am using firefox to go on the web and such. I use outlook express as my e-mail client. When I click on the outlook express, I can read my e-mails just fine, but if I reply to someone it tells me that the host could not be found, and it also tells me that the connection has failed. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

I can help with that one. Outlook express is no longer supported if you have hotmail. I've just started going on the web for my email.

Correct or change your mail client. About the first poster. Uninstall and reinstall, or repair your install. That should help. Also if you don't have get the latest.

I'll try to repair the install...didn't think of that.

For some reason whenever I check my aol mail I can get to the website, sign, and send email, as well as get to my inbox. However, when i'm in my inbox and I want to read a new message I can't. I press enter on the link, but firefox will not take me to the message, any ideas on how I can fix this problem/

I hope the firefox community helps to make things better. I hate that sorry excuse for a download manager.

I think what Firefox will have to do is implement some support for IE-specific code (thereby it will no longer be IE-specific) as they have stuck to W3C specifications. The problem is many web applications (AOL Mail and Hotmail being two) use a lot of IE-specific code. This will take some forethought because the advantage of Firefox is its "sandboxed" environment which means that someone can't write and autorun script on your computer aka spyware, through Firefox. At least not as easily.
They have a serious problem with some sites that open new windows, which use IE-specific scripting mechanisms to do it, as that doesn't work with Firefox.
I know, a lot of technical gobbledygook to many users, but the issue was made complicated when IE started using its own standards on Windows to take advantage of its shell nature (IE being part of your operating system). So pages have naturally followed suit because they can, and there are a lot who now make Firefox look bad.
I personally think an IE compatibility layer (invisible to you the user) is in order, but it would still function differently from IE, because it's not acting on your OS, or the kernel (guts) of your OS.
Sorry if I made clear a veritable pain in the ass, without providing a user solution. There isn't an easy one right now, really.

Well the solution is to use Firefox for what it works best for, and IE for other applications. I use firefox when I need to solve a caption, or some other things. Switching is the best way to run these. Smile. I keep them both updated, so they do as best as they do, but well this is computing, so.

There is a plug in for fire fox that opens any web page you specify in ie.

Funnily enough, it's called IE View.

So lets say you want to see a specific site in ie, but you forgot to switch to IE, this plug in will do that for you.

There is also a plug in called IE Tab, which is suppose to use the IE engine with in fire fox,but screen readers don't see the contents of the web page in the virtual buffer.

As a programmer I thought I'd poke around in the community but I don't like it.

You my friend probably have some virous, or a cookie that you don't want. Run your cleaner. Make sure it is updated.

Yup, virus! And, the update sucks.

Yeah, I'm still running Firefox 3.5. 3.6 just won't work with Web Vissum. I haven't had many issues with Firefox myself except that updating one, and yes, there are certain sites that work better in IE, like the mobile Facebook for example. I don't know why, but it won't let me log in if I use Firefox, so I gave up on it and just switched to IE for that.

Post 21 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Wednesday, 07-Apr-2010 21:16:55

Weird, I'm using the newest firefox, and I'm not having any trouble with web vissum or the regular site of facebook. Maybe its case-by-case. Am I the only one who isn't having these problems?
Let me see. Ok, Heres what I have.

I also use Firefox 3.6.3 and have no issues with WebVisum. I don't use Facebook, so can't comment on that.

Mine works nicely as well. You might check your computers settings to see if they are correct if you have issues. Video cards and such make a differents, and how your computer is setup.

Post 24 by MusicFan (Generic Zoner) on Friday, 09-Apr-2010 16:00:44

I realized what my problem was with outlook, and it took one of my friends helping me to find it out. It was to do with my network connections, and now it's solved. I use Firefox 3.6.2, but I will probably upgrade to the other one soon. But I have not had any problems with firefox with any of the websites I have been on. I use NVDA for my screen reader, and I like it a lot. Thanks for your help, and p.s. I do not have hotmail for e-mail. I havegoogle. Thanks for your help.

Before doing anything to your reader, I would first disable all your add-ons in Firefox. They tend to disable gracefully, unlike Internet Exploiter.
To me, what you describe in original post is not a reader issue at all; it sounds like either script written in Greasemonkey or some other environment which is attempting to aggressivly prevent pop-ups.
Just my thoughts / this helps a variety of issues, reader or no reader.
Oh, and to restore, you just enable them one at a time, saving any of those that modify actual pages or spyware settings for last.

Makes sense, but I must admit that I am getting sick of firefox.
